Arthur C. Newby Video

Mooresville Public Library (Mooresville, Indiana) presents another installment of its local history series, "Mooresville Moments." In this episode, we examine another "Famous Mooresvillian," Mooresville's Quiet Philanthropist, Arthur C. Newby, Indianapolis manufacturing innovator, automobile and bicycle racing enthusiast, and co-founder of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Newby was born and raised near Monrovia, Indiana, but he also lived in Mooresville and attended the Academy School there. In 1920, Newby donated land to the Mooresville School Association to construct a new elementary school named in memory of his late uncles, Milton and William Newby. Newby Elementary School is still used today.
